Tubbercurry GAA Club was founded in 1888 and won its first Championship title in 1890, beating Sooey by 5pts to 1pt. Since then the club has had many successes, being County Champions on numerous occasions, 19 in all. In 1891 we were one of 17 clubs to be affiliated to the GAA and paid a fee of 2/6. Since then the club has experienced good times and bad but all the time the wearers of the “ Black and White” kept the GAA banners flying in keeping with its proud tradition. While every Championship title was important, few gave more pleasure than that of 1976. The club had waited 19 years to lift the Owen B Hunt Cup. Over the years many of our clubmen have worn the County jersey with distinction. It would not be possible to give a comprehensive list. Today that is still the case, a number of our current team do us proud in inter-County matches. The club gives every encouragement to youth. Underage competitions of all age levels have been successfully contested.
